• Teaching that fosters independence, empowerment, & love for writing

• Genre studies in writing essays, narratives, research-based arguments, poetry and informational texts

• Deep understanding on how writers develop while also considering where they are in the writing process

• Considering the components of balanced literacy to scaffold & support writing

• Using Writing Workshop to foster identity and self-worth

• Tips to plan Interactive Read Aloud with Grand Conversation

• Using mentor texts to lift the level of student work

• Opportunity to work on your own writing for your teaching and self

• Working with writing partnerships support a growth mind set, self-assess and set goals

• Influenced by the work of Brene Brown on leadership, Marc Brackett on Social Emotional Learning, & Bettina Love on being on Antiracist Teacher
